Study Abroad Programs

The majority of Georgia Tech's study abroad programs fit in one of three categories:  Faculty-Led Study Abroad (FLSA), Exchange, or Study/Work Abroad.
 
Faculty-Led Study Abroad programs are group programs which offer GT courses taught by GT professors. They typically run in the summer; exceptions are the Pacific Program (Spring), GT Lorraine Undergraduate Program (Fall/Spring), and Architecture Senior Year in Paris. These programs offer a set list of courses and can be worth anywhere from 6-12 credits, depending on the program. All programs are taught in English, except for the language intensive programs (LBATs).
 
Exchange programs allow a GT student to enroll in one of our partner universities around the world for one semester or academic year. Students on exchange programs must enroll full-time and transfer their foreign credits back to Georgia Tech (with approval from GT academic departments). Students can generally choose their courses from the entire host school's course catalog (although some exceptions may apply). Students are subject to the academic system and grading system of the host university. (A few summer exchange programs exist as well. Please see the GT Summer Programs section of this page for more information.)
 
Study/Work Abroad programs are exchange programs that can be followed by a semester of work abroad. For Study/Work Abroad programs, a student may study for one or two semesters without working abroad, or study one semester followed by a semester of work abroad. The work abroad portion of these programs is handled by GT's Work Abroad Office.
GT Semester/Exchange/Yearlong Programs

Application Deadlines:

Fall and yearlong programs - Mid February.
Spring Programs - Early September or October, depending on program

Graduate Program at Georgia Tech Lorraine

International Academic Projects (IAP)

What is an international academic project?

Participants in IAPs are engaged in academic or research work that will be partially or wholly completed outside of the United States. Some participants in international academic projects register for academic or research credit hours, as determined by the faculty member overseeing the project. Participants may or may not be accompanied by a GT faculty or staff member while abroad.

Non-GT Overseas Program

What is a Non-GT Program? A Non-GT Program is one that is available through another university or an organization/company that sets up programs abroad. These programs are not affiliated officially with GT, but may offer locations or courses that GT programs do not currently sponsor.

To participate in a Non-GT Program you are required to fill out the following three forms and return them to the OIE (Savant Building, #211):

1. The Acknowledgement of Policies and Procedures

2. The Study Abroad Participant Profile

Both of which are included in the booklet: "Participating in a Non-GT Program"

3. Foreign Credit Approval Form (FCA) for Non-GT.  *Please note that OIE can not approve this form until you have submitted the two required forms listed above.

You will need to download and carefully read the instructions on completing the Foreign Credit Approval Form: click here.  The FCA is required in order to get your credits pre-approved for transfer back to GT.

Finding a Non-GT Program

There are thousands of additional study abroad programs available to students whose specific geographical needs are not met by a GT Program.
