BACKGROUND
Georgia Tech has developed a number of overseas programs around the globe. These programs provide students with the opportunity to complete a portion of their academic studies abroad. GT Faculty-Led Study Abroad Programs allow students to experience GT coursework in an entirely different context. Students earn academic credit while participating in field projects, on-site visits, and overseas courses.

LOCATION INFORMATION
France
A member of the European Union and the largest country in Western Europe, one of France's most notable characteristics is its diversity. You can go skiing one day, then hop on a train and go sunbathing the next. Your greatest dilemma may be deciding whether you should ski in the Alps or the Pyrenees or swim in the Mediterranean Sea, the English Channel or the Atlantic Ocean. France's history spans from the ancient Celts' immigration to Napoleon's Rule in the First Empire to create the unique and diverse French culture of today.

Paris
Paris is one of the most beautiful and culturally important cities in the world. For centuries, it has been a center of art, fashion, literature, and intellectual thought. Paris is known as the City of Light, since many of the thinkers that produced the Enlightenment in the 17th and 18th centuries lived in Paris.

The city proper is relatively small; no part is more than six miles from Notre Dame, which is at the very heart of the city. Public transportation is excellent, but most students find walking the best way to explore the city. You will find buildings that defined an architectural style in the 18th century mixed in with modern 20th century buildings in one block.

CREDIT TRANSFER INFORMATION
This is a GT faculty-led study abroad program; courses offered are GT courses.

This is a 12 credit-hour program per semester. At least 24 credit-hours for the academic year.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
-You must be a FOURTH year student majoring in architecture to participate in this study abroad program and you must be at least 18 years of age by the program's departure date.

-You must be in good academic standing. Good academic standing is determined by the Registrar's Office and is indicated at the end of your transcript each semester. Academic warning is a subcategory of good academic standing, so students on warning are still eligible.

-You must be in good disciplinary standing. The Office of the Dean of Students determines your standing based on your disciplinary record.

-You must maintain appropriate standards of behavior. Keep in mind that there are social aspects to the study abroad learning experience. Appropriate standards of behavior must be adhered to at all times. All faculty, staff, and participants, must be able to comply with all program guidelines including but not limited to the following: the ability to interact, work and effectively communicate within both group and independent settings, the ability to live and travel in a close group environment, the ability to live in program-provided housing (eg. university residence/dormitory, host family, and/or hotel, etc. depending on the program), travel by bus/train/plane with the group, attend and participate in all classes, participate in cultural activities and site visits, etc. Please note: If you have previous contact with GT study abroad programs, the OIE, and/or the Office of the Dean of Students, applications may require additional time to be reviewed and processed.

-You must complete TWO Mandatory OIE Prep Meetings. Each time you participate in a GT study abroad program, you are required to complete TWO Mandatory OIE Prep Meetings: PART ONE & PART TWO.

All students pay GT in-state tuition + $103 GT Technology Fee per semester;
out-of-state students add $250 per semester.

INSURANCE
GT STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS organized and managed by the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT), provide some supplemental insurance to all participants. This supplemental insurance includes medical, repatriation, and evacuation coverage. ALL students who participate in GT study abroad programs are required to have this study abroad insurance plan coverage; students pay for this study abroad insurance in their program fee.

" Medical Coverage**
The medical coverage is intended as a supplement to study abroad participants' primary health insurance policies. The policy is valid for the duration of the program. The policy provides some coverage for injuries sustained or conditions diagnosed while abroad, but that coverage is limited in terms of time and amount so participants are strongly encouraged to keep their regular health insurance active while abroad. Information on the terms and limits of the coverage provided by the policy is explained in the brochure, "Georgia Institute of Technology Study Abroad Insurance Plan," which is provided to all study abroad participants at the prep meetings conducted by the Office of International Education.

" Evacuation and Repatriation Coverage**
In the unfortunate event of an accident or other medical emergency, repatriation and evacuation coverage provides funds to pay for one's return to the U.S. Information on the terms and limits of the coverage provided by the policy is explained in the brochure, "Georgia Institute of Technology Study Abroad Insurance Plan," which is provided to all study abroad participants at the prep meetings conducted by the Office of International Education.

**The policy that will be used by GT study abroad programs is administered by T.W. Lord Associates and is underwritten by ACE American Insurance Company.

PLEASE NOTE: GT study abroad programs DO NOT provide other types of supplemental insurance coverage, such as theft insurance, trip cancellation insurance, etc.

CLIMATE
Northern France, including Paris, has a temperate climate similar to southern England with warm summers, cold winters and rainfall throughout the year. Paris is at its best during the temperate spring months, from March to May, with autumn coming in a close second. August is usually hot and sticky, and it's also when many Parisians take their yearly vacations, so businesses are likely to be closed
