PART TWO: Prep Meetings are provided by the Office of International Education (OIE), and are offered on different dates. All participants in GT Group Study Abroad Programs are required to attend one of these Part Two meetings.
The PART TWO meeting conducted by OIE does not cover topics that are specific to any one program; rather, it covers topics that are relevant for all participants. Some of the topics are:
- Cross-cultural adjustment
- Clearing customs
- Health matters
- How violations of the conduct code are handled abroad
- Safety
- Packing
- Phoning home
- Money matters
- Using financial aid for study abroad
- Etc.
Once OIE PART TWO Prep Meeting dates are set, they are posted on the OIE Events Calendar. If you are a co-op or Transient/Special student, OIE will e-mail these materials to you. Co-op students must inform OIE of their co-op status immediately by e-mailing study.abroad@gatech.edu. OIE will verify this status with the Division of Professional Practice. OIE will begin e-mailing orientation materials one week after the first PART TWO: Prep Meeting.
Program Specific Orientations Each study abroad program will have at least one orientation that will cover issues specific to the particular program. Your Program Director/Coordinator will announce the date of program specific orientation to all of the participants in the program. Please contact your Program Director/Coordinator for more details.
Pre-Departure Orientation for GT Exchange and Study/Work Abroad Programs
Exchange and Study/Work Abroad Pre-Departure Orientations
Students are required to complete an Online Pre-Departure Orientation for Exchange and Study/Work Abroad once they have been accepted to a program. Students will be prompted via email when it is time to complete the orientation. They must also attend 15 minute follow-up meeting with their Study Abroad Advisor.

Intercultural Communication Orientation
GT Exchange and Study/Work Abroad Program Participants are also required to attend the Intercultural Communication Orientation, generally held in November (for Spring programs) and April (for Fall and year-long programs). Exact dates are announced in the Exchange and Study/Work Abroad Programs Application Instruction Packet.
