Why study abroad?

To see what you are learning about and see how the things you are learning about affect real people.

To try to get an edge in the competitive job market. More and more sectors of the economy involve working with international companies, collaborating or working with foreign teams, or working as part of a multi-national or multicultural team. Getting meaningful international experience is one way to prepare yourself for the workforce you will enter after graduation.

To acquire or improve foreign language skills.

To benefit from courses which are not available on our campus in order to explore an interest cultivated outside of the major area of study.

Beyond the obvious lessons in cultural differences and lifestyle, a person who spends a significant amount of time abroad learns about themselves and, through the eyes of others, about their country. These lessons, in addition to fostering independence and broader views on issues ranging from foreign policy to ethics and everything in between, can provide students with tools that will eventually affect how decisions are made on the job and how well they are able to adapt to and succeed in the global marketplace.

For the adventure: to discover places unseen or seen only through the eyes of others or of the media.
