Can I submit a printed copy of my transcript from OSCARWEB with my exchange program application?
No. Because transcripts printed from OSCARWEB do not have your name on them, you must turn in an official copy of your transcript.
Do I have to turn in my Foreign Credit Approval Form (FCA) at the same time as my application?
No, you don't have to turn it in at the same time. The FCA is to ensure that you get credit for the classes taken abroad. It is in your own best interest to get the form to us as soon as possible, but you may turn in the FCA any time before you depart for your program abroad.
Where do I submit my completed application and supporting materials?
Applications should be submitted either in person or by mail to the OIE, located in the Savant Building, Suite 211.
Do I have to be accepted to apply for scholarships?
For most of the scholarships, you do not have to be accepted to apply. You will, however, have to show proof of acceptance to receive most scholarships.
How long will it take to know if I am accepted into a program or not?
OIE makes every effort to mail nomination or denial letters no more than 3 weeks after the application deadline.
What's next? What happens after I turn in my application?
After the OIE receives your "completed application packet," OIE will review your application. OIE will also send information from your application to the Office of the Dean of Students to check your disciplinary record. Within a week of the deadline for receiving applications, OIE will contact the partner university to ask if there is adequate space in the program to accommodate you. Once OIE receives a reply from the foreign university, a letter of nomination or denial will be prepared. Your letter will be mailed to the "Current Address" provided on the online application form. The letter will have materials attached that explain the next steps that you will need to take, including completing forms for the host institution, mandatory meetings and orientations, and immigration information.
Do I have to register for classes?
Yes! You have to register for the 12 hour Foreign Studies course (FS4000) through OSCARweb. You should register during your normally scheduled timeticket. This class will keep you enrolled at Tech while you study abroad.
How do I pay?
You will pay tuition directly to the GT Bursar, unless you have been informed otherwise by your Study Abroad Advisor.
How much do I pay?
Check with your Study Abroad Advisor, as costs vary.
How do I get a visa?
Most countries require that you have a student visa. Information on how to obtain a visa can be obtained by contacting the closest Embassy or Consulate for the country in which you wish to study. You can locate information on embassies/consulates by visiting the U.S. State Department's web site at : www.travel.state.gov
I am looking at courses on the Equivalency Table on OSCAR. I don't see a course that I wish to take abroad. Does that mean I can't take that course?
If a course is not listed on the Equivalency Table on OSCAR, that simply means that it has not been given standing approval yet. You are still welcome to seek transfer approval for that course via the Foreign Credit Approval form.
