Federal and State Taxes

Federal Tax Returns

F1 Students and J1 Exchange Visitors are required to file a federal tax return on any income they receive while in the U.S. Tax returns must be filed by April 15 for the previous calendar year. In addition, all Students and Exchange Visitors who are nonresidents for tax purposes, regardless of their employment record, must also file the Internal Revenue Service form 8843.

The Office of International Education offers a software, called CINTAX, for free to assist Students and Exchange Visitors with filing these forms. The software will also determine if you are a resident or nonresident for tax purposes.

CINTAX is made available from early February through April 15 through the GLACIER software if paid by Georgia Tech and the “F1/J1 Tax Software” group in Buzzport, if not paid by Georgia Tech.

Further instructions will be given on this website in January 2010.

Georgia State Tax Returns

The Office of International Education offers a number of tax workshops to assist nonresident Students and Exchange Visitors in filling out their Georgia tax returns.

Details of the time and location of the Georgia State Tax Return workshops will be released in January 2010 through InTECHnational News and on the OIE website.
