To attend Georgia Tech as an exchange student, there must be an established exchange agreement with your home university. The international relations or study abroad office at your university must contact the Office of International Education at Georgia Tech in order to request a current application packet and to confirm that we are able to host you. All exchange student applications must be submitted to the international office at your home university for approval before being forwarded to Georgia Tech.
Undergraduate Applicants must submit the following:
- Application for Transient Admission (official application form)
- J-1 Student Information Sheet (used to issue immigration documents)
- Non-Degree Applicant Permission Form (required home university approval)
- Official and Original Transcripts in both native language and English-translation
(for all study after high/secondary school) - Financial statement and proof of financial resources (original bank statement)
- Completed Housing Request Form (Academic Year or Spring Only)
- TOEFL Score submitted to GT (include copy of score report with you application)
- All applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency prior to admission and must submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Your score must be 600 or better on the paper-based test, 250 or higher on the computer-based test, or 95 or better on the iBT – internet based test. Scores are only valid for two years. You must take the TOEFL test from an ETS testing site. Institutionally administered tests will not be accepted by Georgia Tech.
- In lieu of TOEFL, we will also accept an IELTS score of 7.0 or higher or a rating of C1 or higher from the Common European Framework of Reference.
Graduate Exchange Applicants will submit different application materials and must complete academic department specific requirements, which may include a GRE or GMAT score. Graduate Exchange Applicants must take the TOEFL and achieve a minimum score of 100 on the internet-based test. (IELTS and CEFR will not be accepted). Once your home university contacts us, a graduate application packet will be emailed to you that will detail specific requirements for your field of study.
All documents listed above should be returned to the Office of International Education at the following address no later than April 15 for Fall Semester & Academic Year participation and October 1 for Spring Semester participation. The entire application process generally takes four to six weeks from the date your application is received. The application process may take slightly longer for graduate applicants.
